I can't believe I haven't been raving on here about E3 yet. What was I thinking. Here I was wasting time while at work (which is not to say that I don't actually work) and I could have put down some of my thoughts on E3.
I'm going to make it simple and pain free for you. If you haven't watched any of the footage yet just watch the Nintendo Press conference. Everything else is inconsequential in comparison. I know, I watched all the feeds except for Sony's which I later found out wasn't much of a loss. Of the major debuts this year at E3, Nintendo's Wii U is at the top of my list. Most of the other stuff I had already known about, but to actually glimpse the next generation console from Nintendo was truly satisfying.
I think it's hilarious that in 2007 Nintendo Introduced the Wii and with it motion controls, then Microsoft developed the Kinect for 360 and Sony the Move for PS3. The funny part is that it took Microsoft and Sony 2-3 years before they fully grasped the concept, then Nintendo pulls a quick 180 and gives us the Wii U with HD better than current Gen console graphics, wii-mote motion plus controller support and a tablet gaming controller with dual analog sticks and all the buttons you need on a controller today.
At first, while watching the feed, I thought that all they were showing off was a controller. People were confused and angry. Upon further investigation I found out much more, and am impressed to say that the Wii U will be incredible in every way. The only thing that I'm concerned about is the retaliation from Sony and Microsoft to come. Inevitably they will produce new consoles in the coming year or two that will be better now doubt, I just hope that they don't kill off Nintendo like how Sega got killed after the Dreamcast failed so miserably.
At this point there is little more to say, but E3 was a bit of a let down for Microsoft and Sony fans, but a huge triumph for Nintendo fans, consumers, and game developers alike. Aside from the hardware of Nintendo, there was a deluge of Game debut's, most of which I had seen before, some that were totally a surprise. I'm excited for the Kirby Wii game which allows up to four players simultaneously like in New Super Mario Bros. Wii. I can't stress enough how excited I am to play TES: Skyrim in November. Games like Modern Warfare 3 and Battlefield 3 drew a lot of attention and look like a lot of fun.
This year and next will be filled with great releases, it's gonna be good ya'll!
